While I spend plenty of time with the larger parts of my personal network (i.e. my NetBook and iPad) the fact that I have my iPhone with me at all times has given me pause, as I consider how many things it has replaced in my life. My smartphone has taken the place of such things as:
- My watch (much of the time)
- A personal GPS
- A magnetic compass
- A small notebook
- An alarm clock
- A personal calendar
- A To-Do list
- A calculator
- A digital voice recorder
- A bar code reader
- A camera
- A camcorder
- Maps
- Access to all of my personal photos
- A scanner
- Important document storage
- A Guitar tuner
- Metronome
- A backup guitar amp
- An eReader
- Access to local movie schedules and trailers
- Access to TV schedules
- A blogging platform
- Access to all of my browser bookmarks
- A marginally useful flashlight
- Access to Email, IM accounts, Skype, all of my Google contacts
- And finally…a telephone
The fact is that there are plenty more things which smartphones can do…I am in the process of learning still…
