What is the Flat Classroom™ Project?

The Flat Classroom™ Project is a global collaborative project that joins together middle and senior high school students. This project is part of the emerging trend in internationally-aware schools to embrace a holistic and constructivist educational approach to work collaboratively with others around the world in order to create students who are competitive and globally-minded.

This is a quote from one of the sites serving this community; I just joined a few weeks ago, and am in the process of getting more involved in this endeavor. The link embedded in the question will go to a page which has many sources and reviews which will provide deeper information about the community.

I joined the Flat Classroom project (as I also joined the Classroom 2.0 community) in order to connect with other teachers and students who are actually trying to take education into the 21st century.

I have posted to this blog a number of questions about how the education industry has been falling behind the curve of advancing technology, and increased global connections. These communities of teachers and students seem to be headed in the right direction (in my humble opinion…).

In many ways these sorts of collective projects by schools, teachers, and students…from all over the world exemplify what the new internet based computer tools will ultimately allow us to do. In the broadest sense, one of the important goals of any education would be to understand others, to see them as they see themselves. I can’t think of a better way to accomplish this.
