Online guitar tools

Moving MetronomeI’ve posted lists of some of the iPad tools I use to study and practice guitar. The fact is you don’t need to get an iPad merely to work on the guitar (a really huge, self evident point!). There are plenty of basic tools on the internet (and even a few bit of freeware lurking out there too) which can save you time and even some money as you progress on the guitar.

Almost any Google search for ‘Guitar tuners’, ‘online Metronomes’, ‘Guitar chord tools’ or ‘Guitar scale tools ’will bring in results such as I have (see below) To work on basic mechanics, or music theory you do need to have some access to some paper to work out or to diagram what you are working on. Having a chord encyclopedia (as well as a counterpart for scales) can save you a lot of time too…

If you do a few more searches you might be able to find tools with which to slow down MP3 files (if you want to deconstruct a song, and to fine tune in on subtle harmonies and lines), and there are certainly a wealth of online guitar lesson sites (I think that Justin Sandercoe’s site is a great place to start).
