IPad use amongst the new users…

Since I got my iPad, I have wondered how others use theirs. This piece of technology has been out in the marketplace long enough that there should be some trends worth watching to get a sense of where this tool is pulling or pushing people.

For myself, I find that the iPad is my primary source of media consumption (like most users, I would assume). I can see that I spend more time on YouTube than before, I also spend more time dealing with social networking sites and have dramatically increased the number of RSS feeds I go through every day.

I also find that apps like Instapaper have started to dissolve the line between reading books and perusing magazines and surfing the ‘net. In a related manner, I have found that one of my current projects (i.e. to get on top of PHP and MySQL) has been progressing through using online sites, some feeds, and a steady (but slow) accumulation of eBooks on the subject. I have found that the iPad is a great adjunct to studying, and even working on code related topics (i.e. I work on the code with my PC, and use the iPad as a parallel resource.

As far as some of the interesting aspects of the listed research and summaries of studies related to how people are using their iPads, my biggest surprise is that most people use their iPad mostly as a home equivalent of their work computer. By this, I man that iPad usage spikes in the evenings, and computer use usually spikes during the work day hours (i.e. 9 to 5). I guess this might be some correlative proof that most people use the iPad as a media consumption tool (and little else).
