If you have read any of my posts in the last several months, you might know that I use my iPad as my sole guitar rig. I have several apps I have been testing out (iShred, Peavey’s AmpKit, Amplitube, and a couple other virtual guitar amp/virtual guitar pedalboard apps). So far I have found most of them to be usable, and many have some specific advantages (Peavey’s AmpKit allows for re-amping your tracks, iShred sounds good (it’s free), and Amplitube has a new multi-track recorder (as does a couple other apps I have).At the CES this year, Griffin came out with some hardware adjuncts to using the iPad for guitarists which are worth looking at.
First off I should cover the Griffin stompbox (in contradistinction to the stompbox app I already have (possibly my favorite guitar tool on the iPad!)). This hardware/app configuration in integrated with the iShred app, and provides a means to control various virtual stompbox configurations with a physical stompbox (what a great, if obvious idea!). It looks like the pedalboard has 4 switches, and can be easily programmed from the iPad.
Griffin also came out with what looks like an actually usable iPad to music stand attachment. This looks like a four point connector/harness which would be great at the end of a boom attachment to a mike stand.
I have some links and a couple preliminary videos of the stompbox being shown (amidst the noise and bustle) of CES, I suspect that these new additions for iPad musicians will be on the market within a few months…
